More precisely, DarWEN, develops a Smart Management Platform for the Optimum Dispatch Scheduling of the Water-Energy Nexus (WEN) and of a prototype Water & Energy Control Center (WECC), together suggesting an integrated solution that can tackle efficiently water – energy nexus implications. The proposed management system will be deployed on the non-interconnected electrical system of Kos – Kalymnos and at the island of Tilos.

Safeguarding reliable energy and water supply at island level is still a triggering problem that many Greek islands are at the moment dealing with. The main objective of DarWEN project is to provide viable and secure energy and water supply solutions by developing and implementing an innovative, holistic and intelligent management system at community level that:
- targets at the efficient operation of energy and water systems;
- favors the reduction of their operating costs;
- supports increased RES penetration rates and utilization at local level.
