History
The Laboratory of Applied Hydraulics is one of the oldest Laboratories of the School of Civil Engineering. It was established in 1963 and is located at the homonymous building of the Campus at Zografou. It focuses on fundamental as well as applied aspects of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, environmental fluid mechanics, hydraulic structures and related areas. It supports core and elective courses in the curriculum of the School of Civil Engineering as well as graduate courses of the interdepartmental program on Water Resources Science and Technology. Basic and applied research, both experimental and computational, is being conducted through doctoral dissertations, postgraduate and diploma theses, and through externally or internally funded research projects. The Laboratory also provides specialized services in its area of expertise to the public and the private sector, such as Ministries, the Public Power Co., Water supply companies, Consulting and Construction companies. The Laboratory has developed collaborations with respective academic units abroad, such as the Universities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, University of Cardiff, ETH Zurich.
